Pathways

Today I have been pondering Father's faithfulness along the pathways of this life.  Many times I have dreamed of driving in areas of road construction and being frustrated and confused by the signs and the barricades and finding it difficult to navigate.  Just the other day, while driving in pouring rain and morning rush hour traffic, I lived out one of those dreams.  In the midst of the traffic and rain there were bright orange construction signs indicating the right lane was closed ahead.  So I carefully maneuvered to the left lane only to discover that the right lane wasn't closed after all...  So I had to carefully maneuver back to the right lane to be able to turn right to get to my office.  Such is life.

We often find ourselves in the midst of rush hour traffic in the pouring rain trying to follow the signs of the world only to discover they are misleading and inaccurate.  I am reminded of Psalm 19 - verses 7-11 - "
The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. The lifemaps of God are right, showing the way to joy.The directions of God are plain and easy on the eyes. God's reputation is twenty-four-carat gold, with a lifetime guarantee. The decisions of God are accurate down to the nth degree. God's Word is better than a diamond, better than a diamond set between emeralds. You'll like it better than strawberries in spring, better than red, ripe strawberries. There's more: God's Word warns us of danger and directs us to hidden treasure.  Otherwise how will we find our way?"  (The Message)  We have to keep our eyes on Him, our ears tuned to His voice and our minds focused on His Word.  And He will be faithful to direct our paths.

Why is He so faithful to us?  He can't be anything but faithful.  He loves us and He wants the best for us.  And He takes great delight in helping us and caring for us and rewarding us and blessing us.  In Jeremiah 29:11 He says, "I know what I'm doing.  I have it all planned out - plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for." (The Message)

I'm smiling as I type this because I have learned, in my most frustrating and confusing and difficult situations, that He is faithful.  His signs are clear when I look for them.  They get me on the right road.  His lifemaps lead to joy.  His directions are plain and easy to follow.  He not only keeps me from danger but He rewards me with great treasures - whispered treasures from His heart!  So I will trust Him.  And the things I hope for will be mine as He fulfills His plans for my life.  And when frustrating and confusing and difficult situations arise, I will smile and I will be thankful because they will be yet another opportunity for me to look to Him and find Him generously helping me, caring for me, rewarding me and blessing me.  I will pray for you to do the same!
