Shadows

We stand between the light of the sun
And all of the people in our path.
The size of our stature doesn't decide
The length of the shadow we cast.

When the sun begins to warm her face,
A child stands praising at the dawn.
Behind her the mountains look very small
As the rising sun makes her shadow long.

In the heat of the noonday burning bright
A man stands tall with no shadow found.
But as he bends low to help a brother
The sun stretches his shadow to cover the ground.

At dusk when the colors of the day are fading
And the sun is ready to slip away,
A woman frail but upright in heart
Sees her shadow grow longer as she prays.

On our faces the sun rises at dawn.
In the noon it shines as we stand tall.
When twilight steals away our brightness,
It warms our hearts as the dark night falls.

Each day when we walk through this world
Our shadows will be cast all around.
The shelter and shade that they provide
Is determined by where the sun is found.

Acts 5:12  The apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon's Colonnade. 13  No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people. 14  Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. 15  As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.

II Corinthians 4:5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.  7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.
