Sharing A Secret
Today when I woke up, I smiled in the dark at my Jesus standing there smiling at me - a resurrected, living and loving Lord! I thanked Him for the grace of the life He now lives in me. I thanked Him for this day that celebrates and highlights the life we can all have in Him. And I felt anticipation for the day - for the life He would be living in it!
Then my thoughts went to Mary Magdalene. She began this day with sorrow in her heart, longing to see His smile just once more. She didn't know it was the first Resurrection Day. Her waking thoughts were clouded with fear and loss and questions. I'm certain she hoped that the things He'd said about Himself were true. But as she made her way to His garden tomb, was she anticipating life?
I realized that as I was pondering Mary's thoughts and feelings, Jesus and I were still smiling at each other. It was sort of a trans-dimensional moment with the two of us thinking of Mary and anticipating what would happen when she saw Her risen Lord. It was like I was there, over 2000 years ago, in the garden with Him waiting for her to look up from her weeping. Jesus and I were sharing the secret of His resurrection and smiling at the joy in our own hearts, knowing it would soon be hers, too.
Mark 16:9 After rising from the dead, Jesus appeared early on Sunday morning to Mary Magdalene... John 20:11-18 But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. As she wept, she knelt to look into the tomb and saw two angels sitting there, dressed in white, one at the head, the other at the foot of where Jesus' body had been laid. They said to her, "Woman, why do you weep?" "They took my Master," she said, "and I don't know where they put him." After she said this, she turned away and saw Jesus standing there. But she didn't recognize him. Jesus spoke to her, "Woman, why do you weep? Who are you looking for?" She, thinking that he was the gardener, said, "Mister, if you took him, tell me where you put him so I can care for him." Jesus said, "Mary." Turning to face him, she said in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" meaning "Teacher!" Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' " Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her.
He made her day, didn't He? She saw Him. She saw Him alive. He brought the same life to her that He brought to me this morning. His resurrected, living and loving presence at dawn filled her with joy beyond any she'd ever experienced. He and I shared that same joy today when together we looked at her face as He said, "Mary." And then He turned to me and said, "Amy." Mary and I ran from the garden together.
We have seen the Lord. He lives. Celebrate the joy! Celebrate the life!
Happy Easter!

I Peter 1:8-9 You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don't see him, yet you trust him—with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you'll get what you're looking forward to: total salvation. (The Message)
